The private schools in the surrounding area, however, definitely emanate trad/prep. At my public school, Air Max's and revival 80's style seem to fit the bill for most of the populace, but along with several other friends, I have made an attempt to make the transition to a trad/prep wardrobe. Right now, I am working on the foundations of solid repertoire. Admittedly, I do cheat on occasion, such as wearing American Eagle pants or shorts, but I can figure I can swing it until college. Your blog has been a huge help in doing this, and I check it regularly for advice. Thank you!iarskihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13774119936975424187noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8917648085683904853.post-784533151307378912012-10-31T17:15:11.172-07:002012-10-31T17:15:11.172-07:00Hi Iarski, I commend you for wanting to upgrade yo...Hi Iarski, I commend you for wanting to upgrade your shoe selection while also taking into account your surroundings. But I suppose it also depends on your school population and what is considered to be "the norm". There are some yuppity Northeast academies where hard-soled loafers and bluchers i.e wingtips are the norm, and then there are some West Coast schools where flip-flops are the standard.

Since you don't want to be a rebel in the pretentious way you speak of, I'd go with a winter shoe that is a single step above than the standard. So if the norm consists of flip-flops, then wear Blucher Mocs or Camp Mocs (LLBean, Rancourt, Eastland, etc). If boat shoes are the norm, then go with LLBean Boots/Mocs. If sneakers are the norm, then wear Desert Boots or Chukka boots. I also think rugged boots like a pair of Red Wings are a nice urban go-between, but they may be on the upper end of your budget. Another good option are Buck and Saddle shoes (Bass, Allen Edmonds)but these can also be pricey and "grandpa-ish".

If your really want to be safe, just go with the frat-astic choice of sneakers like New Balance 993 that can obviously be worn any time of the year. And this will carry you through college too.

Keep in mind that many prep shoes are all-season. The popular boat shoe for example, while many attribute it to summer, can be pulled off in the winter too. In fact I wear pretty much my whole shoe wardrobe all year long.

Lastly, consider suede material along with leather for the colder season.
Tony (College Trad)https://www.blogger.com/profile/16275374521874491978noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8917648085683904853.post-67792274200028533182012-10-29T19:37:12.186-07:002012-10-29T19:37:12.186-07:00Hey, I know this isn't exactly the most approp...Hey, I know this isn't exactly the most appropriate post for this question, but seeing as it's the newest, I figured I might as well ask. Seeing as fall is upon us, I was wondering what Trad/Prep shoes would be appropriate for someone in the 16-18 age group to wear. My only qualms lie in the fact that I don't want to appear pretentious by wearing something like wingtips to school everyday, since I am only 16, and especially because my school is not that type of institution. Is there anything that is slightly youthful, but still classy and suited for the winter months?iarskihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13774119936975424187noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8917648085683904853.post-87834197338638801232012-10-18T08:51:58.988-07:002012-10-18T08:51:58.988-07:00I would not be caught dead in that shop...inflated...I would not be caught dead in that shop...inflated prices for the striving and posing.
